Androulakis emphasises duty to preserve ‘historic memory’ of the Armenian Genocide

“It is our duty to constantly strive to preserve the historic memory and for the international recognition of crimes of the genocides against the Armenians, Assyrians and all the Greek populations of Asia Minor and Pontus. It is the only protection we have, as humanity, in order to prevent them being repeated in the future,” main opposition PASOK-KINAL leader Nikos Androulakis said on Thursday, in a statement marking the 110th anniversary of the start of the Armenian Genocide, commemorated on April 24.
According to Androulakis, Armenians, Assyrians and Greeks inhabiting Asia Minor and Pontus during the decline of the Ottoman Empire were victims “of a systematic effort for their extermination by the Young Turks movement.”
