Androulakis to expatriates: Every child must have the opportunity to learn Greek

Addressing a celebrational session of the Greek diaspora at the Stathakion Cultural Center in Astoria, New York on Thursday, main opposition PASOK-Movement for Change leader Nikos Androulakis stressed that every child, grandchild and great-grandchild of Greeks in every part of the world must have the opportunity to learn the Greek language. Androulakis was in New York to celebrate the March 25th Greek Independence Day holiday with Greek expatriates.
“We must read these anniversaries based on the real facts. A handful of Greeks then made the difficult decision to face a mighty opponent, an empire. This decision made them heroes and made us free,” he said, adding:
“The message of this victory is, firstly, that our civilisation has fascinated millions of people throughout the world for hundreds of years and because of this people from many parts of the planet stood at our side. The second message is unity, when we are united we can achieve anything and when we are divided we can lose everything. The third point we must consider is language, which is our DNA. This DNA must stay alive and there must not be a child, grandchild or great-grandchild that does not have the opportunity to learn the Greek language, whatever part of the world they are growing up in. This is our obligation and commitment.”
