PM Mitsotakis: ‘We will continue the policy of development, leading to more job openings’

Athens, Greece.- The government’s targeted policies on development and investments have brought the drop in unemployment figures, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said, commenting on a Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT) report on Tuesday.

According to ELSTAT’s monthly report, in January 2025 the number of unemployed amounted to 408,181 or a drop of 26.8% compared to January 2024, and a drop of 6.6% compared to December 2024.

“The condition of the labor market is one of the most critical indexes, both for the progress of an economy and for social prosperity,” Mitsotakis said in a post on Facebook. “The number of unemployed dropped to 408.2 thousand – the lowest point since November 2008 – while the number of the employed rose to 4.29 million,” he added.

As the premier concluded, “This improvement is not by chance. It is a result of targeted policies boosting development and investments, creating even more, better-paid job opportunities. And we will continue like this.”
