DepFM Papadopoulou at Thessaloniki Summit: Greece has added value

Athens, Greece.- Deputy Foreign Minister Alexandra Papadopoulou, speaking at the Thessaloniki Summit, organized by the Federation of Industries and the Delphi Forum, stressed that Greece has many assets that are valuable to any American government, such as its geographical location and the strength of its merchant fleet.
Papadopoulou, who has also served as Greece’s ambassador to the US, responding to a question about Greek-American relations after the election of Donald Trump, noted that she cannot make predictions. She also added that she “wants to be optimistic without being naive”.
Further, she stressed that “Greece has added value, you cannot ignore it or throw it away”.
Papadopoulou also argued that the issue is not just about Trump, emphasizing the need to examine the profound demographic and economic shifts in American society, as well as the landscape shaped by China’s rise as a superpower.
She noted that it is natural that Donald Trump to prioritise the US interests of and Europe, for its part, has a responsibility to protect the standard of living and the fundamental values on which it was founded.
