PASOK leader Androulakis: A strong national health system is essential

Αthens, Greece.-The leader of the opposition party PASOK-Movement for Change, Nikos Androulakis, on Friday visited the Cross-sectoral Breast Unit at the Elena Venizelou maternity and gynaecological hospital in Athens, where he stressed the necessity of a strong National Health System. The visit was part of the established framework of actions every October in support of breast cancer awareness and its prevention, initiated by the late party leader Fofi Gennimata.

“Our people need a strong national health system, which provides high-quality public services. Greek citizens cannot continue to have the second-highest spending on health in Europe. There is much to do, there must be an organised plan for the reorganisation and revival of the NHS,” he said.
Noting that it would soon be exactly three years since Gennimata’s death, Androulakis praised the valuable work done by the breast cancer unit, both in screening for and in the treatment and recovery from breast cancer. He also emphasised the importance of educating women, starting at school, noting that prevention saved thousands of lives.

“Unfortunately, in relation to other European countries, we still lag behind and must make many steps faster,” he said, while praising the unit for the high-level services it offers in addressing one of the most prevalent forms of cancer.
