FM Gerapetritis: OSCE elections require unanimity – Joint proposal with Türkiye has high likelihood of success

Athenw, Greece.- Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis responded on Monday to current questions from MPs of the “Niki” and “Spartiates” parties regarding the Greece-Turkey agreement to jointly support the candidacies of Feridun Sinirlioglu and Mania Telalian for the positions of OSCE Secretary General and Director of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR), respectively.

“To be elected to the OSCE bodies the election must be unanimous. Our joint proposal with Türkiye  has a high likelihood of being accepted by all other member countries of the Organization,” Gerapetritis stated.

Regarding efforts to foster cooperation with Türkiye Gerapetritis said, “Our duty is to strive for peace, not to foster war.”
Gerapetritis also notes that “Greece’s positions are well-known to the Cypriot leadership with whom we are in constant interaction and mutual briefing.” The Cyprus issue”, Gerapetritis said, “is a top priority for Greece’s foreign policy and we will continue our efforts so that within the framework of UN Security Council resolutions dialogue can resume, ultimately leading to a fair and sustainable solution for a bi-zonal, bi-communal federation.”

“Greece will always stand by Cyprus and we will make every effort to restart the dialogue, aiming for visible, sustainable and positive outcomes,” he concluded.
