Dendias: Hellenic Air Force to have 200 modern fighter jets by 2030

Minister of National Defense Nikos Dendias visited the General Directorate for Defense Equipment and Armaments on Monday and discussed “ Agenda 2030”.

Dendias said the plan includes the upgrades of the Hellenic Air Force and Navy. Specifically, the Air Force will acquire 200 state-of-the-art aircraft by 2030, gradually removing from operation third- and fourth-generation combat aircraft.

The plan also includes the strengthening and upgrade of the fleet with new FDI frigates, looking into joint production of new Constellation frigates, and creating a defense innovation ecosystem by leveraging the Greek Center for Innovation Development (ELKAK). The Center will be established by a law to be tabled in the Greek parliament in the coming days.

“We want to change the current reality of ‘buying foreign arms off the shelf’. To strengthen our own defense industry and move ahead to advanced production of multiplier forces,” Dendias noted.
