PM Mitsotakis: Α lot of scientists that excel abroad and one of the major wagers of this government is to be able to create the conditions in order for them to return to Greece
“We have a lot of scientists that excel abroad and one of the major wagers of this government is to be able to create the conditions in order for them to return to Greece and have good jobs in businesses which meet their conditions and will satisfy their expectations,” Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis noted on Thursday, speaking at the foundation ceremony of the new wing of the pharmaceutical company Boehringer Ingelheim’s factory in Koropi.
At the same time, he emphasised the government’s policy in the health sector, noting that health is one of the top priorities of New Democracy’s second tenure. He said that it is very important that the money spent on health should not be lost in the labyrinths of bureaucracy and uncontrolled medical prescriptions.
“On the contrary, along with the funds from streamlining, we have the duty to channel them to public treatment, care, to new innovative medicines which, of course, are more expensive but could also be more effective,” Mitsotakis said.
The premier also said that the pharmaceutical sector will play its own role in this major national effort for more investments which strengthen the national economy and open new job positions.
Concluding, Mitsotakis referred to Artificial Intelligence, calling it a revolution. “We are before a revolution, the revolution of AI that changes everything, from the production process and the way you will set up your new factory to the research itself and the way the clinical surveys will be performed,” he said, and put the question whether “we ourselves in Greece can produce knowhow and innovation or only simply consume it.” Answering his question, he said that Greece, especially in medicine, can become a top European player and strengthen Europe strategic independence.
