PM Mitsotakis in Thessaloniki: Productivity sector confirms high performance of Greek economy

The high performance of the Greek economy has been confirmed by all productivity entities, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said on Wednesday from Thessaloniki, after speaking with productivity representatives in the city ahead of the Thessaloniki International Fair in September.

Mitsotakis referred to the greatly destructive fires in Greece, particularly in NE Greece’s Evros region, and said, “If there is something that could counterbalance this dark climate which justifiably prevails in Greek society due to the catastrophic fires, especially in the region of Evros, this is the very good performance of our economy, which was once again certified by all productivity agencies.” He mentioned particularly the high performance of the sectors of tourism, exports, and new investments that include Thessaloniki.

The city, he underlined, has “never experienced such a multidimensional intervention in the past, in terms of the projects set to take place in the city today.”

The Thessaloniki Metro will be completed along with the re-placement of antiquities at the stations they were removed from during digging, and the flyover project is expected to go into the actual construction phase before the end of the year, the premier noted. He added that for the latter project in particular, the relevant deputy minister will introduce a series of interventions to ameliorate the interruption in transportation.

“I do want the residents of Thessaloniki however to understand that the flyover is a very significant public expenditure for the city,” Mitsotakis said. “We are talking about a road that will be free, a road without tolls, which – when completed – will truly decongest traffic in the city along with the Metro, and we will then speak of a changed city,” he added.

Deputy Minister of Macedonia and Thrace Stathis Konstantinidis added that a total of 1,800 projects of various size are scheduled in northern Greece. These, he added, “will modernize the productivity and development model and once completed will drastically upgrade citizens’ quality of life.”
