Greek advisory issued by health agency for travelers coming from China
Greece, following the European Union decision, will require travelers on direct flights from China to present negative evidence of being infected with coronavirus, the National Organization for Public Health (EODY) said.
An earlier meeting chaired by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis agreed that Greece would follow an EU directive on precautions. Following the meeting, EODY’s proposals for Greece are as follows:
– All travelers on direct flights to China will have to present a negative coronavirus result of a test carried out 48 hours from departure.
– Greece will carry out genomic sampling of airplane waste from direct flights to China, and to urban waste from the Athens International Airport, to detect SARS-CoV-2 and its variations.
– Travelers on international flights to Greece, who set off from China, should wear a high-protection mask (N95, or KN95, or FFP2) both on the airplane and at airports. Such masks should also be worn by all other travellers, in addition to staff members and airline staff at the airpot.
– Vulnerable population groups are advised to be vaccinated with booster shots against SARS-CoV-2, following the related directions of the National Vaccination Committee.
The measures were introduced by the EU and individual countries in the wake of a spike of coronavirus infections in China.
