Greek telecom giant to enhance key locations with free high-speed internet for visitors
Greek telecommunications giant COSMOTE in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture and Sports announced on Wednesday that it will provide free wireless internet to visitors at major archaeological sites and museums.
COSMOTE said in a statement that “25 points of high cultural and historical interest were selected by the Ministry of Culture and Sports.”
“COSMOTE already offers free wireless broadband services in thirteen places of cultural interest, while it continues to create infrastructure in other areas, with the total investment of the company exceeding €3 million,” the provider said in its statement.
The service will enable visitors to the location to access additional information about the site they were visiting as well as other information relating to the area.
It will also allow visitors to share their experiences through the internet and social networks.
In June last year, the telecommunications organisation provided wifi in four sites and museums of Crete: the archaeological site of Knossos, the Archaeological Museum of Heraklion, the island of Spinalonga in the Gulf of Elounda, as well as the Museum of Archaeological Site Eleftherna.
